Deborah S. Tropp-Thompson is a founding partner of McNeil Tropp & Braun LLP. Ms. Tropp has been practicing insurance defense litigation for over 30 years. She has represented numerous insurance and private clients in complex trials and is known for her expertise in insurance defense/civil litigation. Her main practice includes defense of personal injury cases in medical malpractice, elder abuse, auto injury, trucking injury, product liability and premises liability. Ms. Tropp also represents clients in employment litigation, business litigation, and healthcare law.
Ms. Tropp’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Juris Doctor degree from McGeorge University School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Tropp received the Order of the Barristers Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy.
Ms. Tropp became a member of ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates) in 2006. She is currently the incoming Vice President for the National ABOTA Foundation, and will serve as the President in 2025. Ms. Tropp is also on the Executive Board of the Orange County Chapter of ABOTA and will serve as President for the Chapter in 2026.
Ms. Tropp is an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Irvine Law School and regularly teaches Trial Advocacy to second and third year law students. She volunteers for the Constitutional Rights Foundation’s Mock Trial Program and has been a Mock Trial Judge and High School Mock Trial Coach over the last several years. Ms. Tropp has also served as an adjunct professor at Western State College of Law where she taught Pre-Trial Litigation and Trial Practices to graduating law students.
She has spoken at numerous conferences and participates regularly in webinars on a variety of civil defense litigation topics. She regularly lectures to insurance companies, attorney groups, and healthcare providers on such topics as Proper Patient Charting, MICRA, Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, Managed Care Litigation, HIPAA and Steps to Avoid Malpractice Litigation. She is frequently asked to speak as an educator to physician staff members through the Medical Education Speakers Network.
In addition to the honor of serving on two ABOTA Executive Boards, Ms. Tropp has been recognized with additional honors such as nomination and membership to the prestigious International Society of Barristers, Top 50 Lawyers in California, and yearly recognition as a Lawyer of Distinction.
Well respected for her knowledge and trial skills, Deborah credits her accomplishments to characteristics inbred in her at a young age by her father, Henry. Dedication to the practice of law, civility, integrity, a strong work ethic, service and appreciation towards clients, and teaching the next generation.
